West Indies, after winning the toss, batted with authority. Jomel Solomon’s 96 anchored the innings, while Clyde Hunte (59) and Rohan Kanhai (89) contributed big scores. Sir Garfield Sobers added a useful 42, and Frank Worrell’s 77 provided the finishing touch against India’s bowlers. The hosts piled up a massive 475 runs, a total India could not match across two innings.
